What is the Emirates ID?

This refers to the identity document held by all residents of the United Arab Emirates, which is processed through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.

Something that is remarkable in the Emirates ID is the fact of concentrating different technologies in its manufacture.

This is how we have the presence of technological elements that give it the quality of being a smart card, especially its electronic chip where all the personal information of the bearer is stored. To this is added a public key infrastructure, as well as fingerprint biometrics.

After obtaining the Emirates ID, the bearer will be able to carry out the following actions:

  • Access to secure electronic services.
  • Consult all information related to their identity
  • Join ICA Smart services: https://smartservices.icp.gov.ae/
  • Travel document
  • Access to immigration, also allowing entry through smart gates and eGates available at some airports.

On the other hand, in case you are planning to travel with your Emirates ID, please check beforehand whether or not you need to obtain a visa in addition to your identity document in order to enter.

When should I apply for my Emirates ID?

The first thing that all foreign nationals must do upon arrival in the UAE is to initiate the processing of the medical clearance certificate.

This will serve as a preliminary step to obtain the UAE residency visa with which you will then be able to apply for the ID.

How can I track the status of my Emirates ID?

Once you have completed the procedure to process your UAE ID, you can then track your application and check its status. To do this you will need to do the following:

First of all, you must access the official website corresponding to The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports.

Once there, go to the area marked with the following text: Check application status. Then enter the identification or PRAN number.

After doing so, click on the CHECK button so that the information associated with your ID is displayed on the screen and you can check the status of your application.

In the case of EAU residents, ICA Smart services are available to them. This initiative has been developed by the Federal Identity Authority in order to provide people who require it with a series of protocols to facilitate all those tasks related to identity and residency procedures.

Track your Emirates ID through Emirates Post

Once you have verified that your ID printout has been completed and sent to your destination the next thing you can do is to enter the Emirates Post's website.

Then enter the 21 numbers corresponding to your ID in the box marked Please enter your tracking number and click on the Track an item button.

This will display a chronology of your shipment, i.e. your ID. Within the information displayed you will be able to see when your ID will be delivered to you, as well as the date the document was taken to the post office.

Another way to track your Emirates ID is through the customer service. All this can also be done through the Emirates Post app, which you can download to your smartphone, either iOS or Android.

The difference is that when performing this procedure on the mobile version you will have to click on the Quick actions category and then click on the Track shipment option.

Didn't receive the text message to pick up the Emirates ID?

If you are one of those who have tracked your Emirates ID, but you have not yet been notified via SMS to go to the nearest post office to pick up this ID, you should probably contact the customer service line.

Remember that it can take up to 10 working days for the Emirates ID to reach its destination, at which time the Emirates Identity Authority will notify you via SMS that your document is ready to be picked up at the post office.

Through the customer service line, you will be put in contact with a representative who will inform you about the delivery status of your Emirates ID.

Obtaining a digital copy of your Emirates ID

Although you may have the opportunity to track your Emirates ID through the mechanisms described above, while this document is in your hands you can request a digital copy of it.

To do so, you will need to do the following:

  1. Enter the ICA website or download the ICA UAE Smart app on your iOS or Android smartphone.
  2. Log in by entering the UAE pass or enter your username and password in the corresponding boxes.
